Quick & Cheap > Knowledgebase > Managing WebHosting account > Files in hidden subdirectories - what are these and how to delete them
You may notice that Your cPanel hosting account is using too much disk space. So you go to cPanel / Disk Usage and you can see that alot of data is used by "Files in hidden subdirectories".
The cause should be the trash feature of the cPanel file manager.
When you delete some file in File manager, it is moved to the trash by default (so it can be restored).
When deleting file, you should be able to select to skip the trash and delete permanently.
Now you can delete trash contents (Files in hidden subdirectories) by going to the cPanel / File manager, click "View Trash" button, then click "Empty Trash" button.
The disk space usage may still tell you no space was freed, but that should be OK, statistics should be updated in 24 hours after deleting trash.
